Quality product meets criteria for self-storage

Plans for a new self-store facility right in the centre of Clacton-on-Sea led Gary Chisnall, Director of SB Developments, to choose Portable Space to supply 28 one-trip shipping containers.

Gary says: “With a 18,000 sq ft site, we decided to branch out from our usual line of business which is property development and rentals. We figured that accessible self-storage located right in the town centre would be of interest to local businesses looking for additional space.

“When I started researching which containers to buy, it quickly became clear that it could be a bit of a minefield. I decided to go to Portable Space’s headquarters to look at what they could offer and also take advice on what was the best option for our needs.

“As soon as I got there and met a couple of members of the team, I felt totally confident that this was a quality product from a knowledgeable company. The 20ft containers were going to do the job in being secure, vermin-proof, with a dark green exterior and fitted with a ply-lined floor. They also incorporated easy opening doors with a single locking bar on the right hand side which is fitted with an extended handle making it possible for anyone to operate.

“I was also impressed by both the robust padlocks – as security will be an important selling point for our customers – and the option to have Grafo Therm coating ceilings to prevent condensation. We also bought a smaller 8’ container which we will use as an operations centre on the site.

“All 28 units were delivered by the company’s own transport fleet who were so skilled in getting the containers into the right position and very patient in ensuring they were level on our site.

“It was a great experience all round and if things go well with Town Centre Storage, we will be heading back to Portable Space to buy more units in due course.”
