The Newark Air Museum has been home to a diverse collection of aircraft, helicopters, aeroplanes, aero engines and aviation exhibits for more than 45 years.
Providing suitable storage for non-displayed items has been a challenge for the museum for many years. For a while former enclosed lorry trailers were used as work and storage space for various projects, but more recently these started to deteriorate and the decision was made to replace them with refurbished ISO containers.
Colin Savill, a Trustee at the Museum, says:
Initially we ordered one 20 ft container, which arrived lined and insulated and we installed it on our Southfield Site, behind the MiG fighters.
We could see that this was going to work for us and so we then purchased a further two containers – a 40 ft unit with end opening doors and a second 20ft container. These have now been sited behind Hangar 2 and together with the original unit, have been configured in a horse-shoe layout to make optimum use of the available space whilst allowing easy access for stored items.
Commenting on the decision to select Portable Space and the experience of delivery and installation, Colin continues:
We chose Portable Space because they could provide exactly what we needed with immediate availability and at a competitive price too.
From start to finish, we had a very good service, helped by excellent communication throughout. Once we had the second and third units, we needed the first one to be relocated to configure our ‘U’ shape. The delivery and installation team did a fantastic job in achieving this for us and our new storage solution is working very well indeed.
