Portable Space Container Sets Sail To Help Hurricane Victims

Posted: 3rd November 2017 | By Mark Black

Portable Space is showing its commitment to helping victims of the recent Hurricane Irma which has devastated homes on the Caribbean island of Barbuda.

Portable Space has donated a 20ft shipping container after hearing from a nearby resident that members of her family have been left homeless. Alice Bolton who lives in the village of Elmswell, close to the company’s headquarters in Bacton, was moved to start her own campaign and ask local businesses to donate tools and materials to help them rebuild their lives.

After hearing of the initiative, Portable Space offered to give a shipping container to house everything for its journey across the Atlantic to Antigua and finally to Barbuda. The container has also been fitted with a tracking device, courtesy of US company Globetracker which will communicate its progress every hour on the two-week trip.

The container left the UK on the Agulhas Stream and is scheduled to arrive in Antigua in early November en route for Barbuda.

Mark Black, Managing Director says:

“When we heard about Alice’s excellent initiative, we immediately wanted to help by providing a container to house all the materials and equipment. It appears that what the islanders desperately need right now are the means to create shelter before the rebuilding of homes can begin.

We hope that our container – which we will be tracking as it goes on its journey – will play some part in helping the residents to get back on their feet.”
