This summer we have said goodbye – and thank you – to our longest-serving member of staff, who has retired after 17 years with the company.
Malcolm Bendall was the first full-time person to be employed when we were first established in 2003 and since then, has been a key member of our team for over 17 years, in a variety of roles.
Malcolm, who lives in Stowmarket, says: “I was in at the very start of Portable Space when it was a small family business and it has been a privilege to see it grow and expand over the years, to its current team of 50 people. Initially we only dealt with cabin and container hire – I seem to remember we had a pool of 90 or so older units – which were primarily used on construction sites around East Anglia. Now we have almost 2,000 well-maintained units on the hirefleet and we have moved from having one lorry to 12.
“I am retiring this Summer, along with my wife Loranne, so we can enjoy our leisure time together. We are both keen on green bowling and are very involved in running our local club where we play. I’m also looking forward to spending more time with my three grandchildren who live locally. Family has always been very important to me and now I can enjoy more time with them all.”
Mark Black, Chairman of Portable Space added: “Everyone here would like to thank Malcolm for his outstanding contribution over the last 17 years; it’s been a great journey and we wish both Malcolm and Loranne a long and happy retirement. As the first person to be employed by the company, he has seen us go through many changes and his loyalty, support and no-nonsense feedback has been much appreciated over that time. We look forward to celebrating when circumstances allow us to do it safely and properly.”
