The need to provide welfare units for construction projects led to one company asking Portable Space to devise a mobile solution that could be moved easily from site to site.
Keller UK which is the largest independent ground engineering specialist in the world, delivers solutions for piling, retaining structures and ground improvement.
Billy Skeen from Keller had the unique idea of using converted shipping containers fitted with standard attachment brackets, normally used with buckets. This enabled the containers to be loaded and positioned safely using a loading shovel which is already on the lorry, rather than requiring additional specialist crane equipment.
This solution saved time, fuel and money on each job whilst helping to meet welfare needs. The converted containers provide mobile welfare units which can be fitted out with a small kitchen area and desk – and of a suitable size that could be transported on the same lorry as all the other equipment going to site.
Billy says: “I approached Portable Space with the idea and they produced some drawings as a starting point. They were extremely helpful and flexible in progressing the design so that we could have the door in a certain place and the window on one side. They also arranged the certifications including structural and electrical calculations for the final design.
“Quite honestly I couldn’t have been happier with the result. Not only do we have mobile welfare units that can be transported around the country to the next site but it has delivered significant cost savings too. Portable Space is a great company to do business with.”
