Durable shipping containers make ideal housing for latest radar technology
Converted shipping containers were chosen as a practical solution to house state-of-the-art radar technology.
View Case StudyFor confidential reasons we cannot give too much information in this section, but we have worked on a wide range of defence-related projects either directly for the MOD or via the Facility Maintenance contractors who are often responsible for the maintenance and development of sites and bases around the UK and overseas.
Modular buildings and jackleg cabins are ideal for military bases as the off-site construction significantly reduces disruption, especially for sensitive sites. Fully-fitted modules are delivered almost complete which also simplifies security issues.
We can offer increased specifications to meet local military rules and if defence strategy changes, the units can be relocated as required.
Storing equipment and materials is a necessary part of running any defence base. Containerised storage can meet a myriad of uses whether it’s for the Army, Navy, RAF or special forces, with the added advantage that it can be easily relocated if plans change.
Liquids and materials potentially damaging to the environment such as weed killers, cleaning products, fuels or oils can be stored safely in our bunded containers.
With the need to deploy, often at short notice, shipping containers are regularly used by militaries around the world to move large volumes of materials and equipment. These containers can be plated for shipping for a number of years through either military or worldwide container networks.
If equipment is being shipped off-grid to extremely remote locations, the last-way shipper is often used. These are containers that are close to the end of their useful life for shipping purposes and are not expected to return to the worldwide shipping network after delivery. We provide both used, last way and new one-trip containers from stock.
Specialist Containers
The need to ship military hardware worldwide is not limited to just moving equipment and materials. Often a specialist fit-out to the modified shipping container is required before delivery to the final destination.
We have converted shipping containers into offices, toilets and accommodation that have been shipped overseas to remote locations where they can simply be plugged in and are ready for immediate use. We have even supplied these full of additional lightweight supplies including toilet rolls, cleaning products, insulation materials and tinned food to make use of the space inside the converted containers.
Recent Container conversions for the defence-related sector have included MAPF – Munitions Assessment and Processing Facilities – with specialist conductive and non-conductive flooring and electrics. Containers have also been used to accommodate Radar and specialist equipment housing. Both these projects demonstrate the potential for shipping containers in equipping and accommodating new technology. If you are a military contractor or designer looking to house technology in a unit that is easy to transport, please call us or email our conversions team.
